Rewind to refresh

Impact. It’s the word on everyone’s lips at Six right now. With our ambitious growth plans in full swing, we’re ready for greatness. But before we turn our back on last year for good, we wanted to share a roundup of our highlights – and the impact we’ve already made. Because you can’t forge forward without looking back and celebrating how far you’ve come.

In 2023...

We got curious

2023 was the year we got back to basics. What it really means to be human. Why? Because as a human-centred design consultancy, it felt only right. That’s why we asked the questions that matter. What's the right balance between effectiveness, carbon intensity and inclusivity? How can AI support your business transformation? Does sustainability have a prioritisation problem? Can I future-proof my business? How can we stand with Ukraine?

Lozenges containing the words Creativity, Sustainability, Ukraine, AI and Future proof are displayed. With a illustration of a person thinking alongside.

We flexed our creative muscles

From complex digital projects and rebrands to TV commercials, sustainability reports and potty mouth t-shirts, our creative juices didn’t just flow in 2023, they cascaded. We used playdough to explore new visual identities and held lego workshops to solve big business challenges. And David Webb, our brilliant Senior Designer and 3D whizz, honed his talents on 3D computer animation software, Maya, to create one cheeky ass pineapple. We also explored how AI can improve creativity and set up a steering group of AI Champions across the business.

We got to the truth of trust

Trust gets talked about a lot, but we unpacked the truth behind why we all need it. We created a handy toolkit to help employers focus on how to build it. Because when you get trust right, and become a trusted keystone in your employees’ lives, you can enjoy higher productivity, greater satisfaction and – ultimately – more trust in your business and brand. Trust.

The word 'trust' is circled by a blur of text.

We expanded our minds

Indulging our thirst for knowledge, we attended a whopping 21 industry events. Some of our favourites included BIMA Digital Day, Innovation Zero and the AI Transformation Forum – where our neurons got well and truly tickled. We fancied doings things differently, so we chatted to Mark Eddleston and discovered news ways of working – and put them to the test.

3 images are displayed in total showing the BIMA Digital Day with Year 9 pupils, a snapshot of Marc Eddleston's product and a still from Innovation Zero event.

We welcomed new blood

You know what they say, stand still and you get stale – or something like that. That’s why we threw open our doors and welcomed some brilliant new creative minds. As proud partners of Babbasa, we were lucky to have two interns join us for three months. Touka and Abdi wowed us with their enthusiasm, pure talent and fresh thinking. We also welcomed talented design interns, Theo and Toni, who got stuck into real studio life and worked on some brilliant live projects. Last but not least, we said a big Six hello to five shiny new faces – Matt, Jen, Fin, Maisie and Jack - making us a team of 48.

We celebrated what makes us different

We got to know more than just how our colleagues take their tea. Instead, we got deep and dived into each other’s backgrounds - sharing how we got to where we are. A special thanks to Viv, who shared how her family made a courageous journey in 1979. Seeking refuge from persecution in Vietnam, they were rescued by a British cargo ship and brought to safety in the UK, after losing navigation on a 15ft fishing boat in the South China Sea.

An old photo shows the 15ft fishing boat Viv's family travelled on in the South China Sea.

We made play a priority

Oh, and we made plenty of time for play. In April, the team were willingly locked in a mad scientist themed escape room. In September, we celebrated the end of summer in style with a ceilidh at Clifton Observatory. Halloween saw Six HQ transform into a village terrorised by wolves and in December, we transformed The Radnor Rooms into a winter wonderland, complete with BBQ Christmas lunch.

A big thank you to everyone who made 2023 so special.
